The psychology final will be a 60 question multiple choice exam that you will take in class on May 30 or May 31st.  Here is the study guide and here is the review jeopardy that we played in class.

HOMEWORK DUE MONDAY/TUESDAY

You need to have broken your selected taboo 3 times by class on Monday/Tuesday.  You will turn in this research sheet, this planning sheet and the write up you do in class on Monday/Tuesday.

Make sure that you are in class every day!  If you have an unexcused absence, you cannot make up the work you miss!

You need to write three review multiple choice questions to help you get ready for test on Thursday or Friday.  Use the study guide to pick areas that you need review/.  Make the questions hard and provide the multiple choice options.

Watch tv to find acts of physical or verbal aggression in everyday programming.  Record your notes on the context and purpose for this aggression on this notecatcher.

HOMEWORK DUE APRIL 24 or 25:

I am giving you an extension on your conformity experiment Venn diagram from Wednesday.  You need to turn it in by Monday/Tuesday in order for it to be considered on time.  Here is another copy of it if you forgot

 

Your notes on the Phillip Zimbardo Ted Talk "The Psychology of Evil" are due on Monday/Tuesday as well. 

 

HOMEWORK DUE APRIL 13 or 14:

Read and take Cornell Notes on Chapter 21 and bring your notes to class on 4/13 or 4/14.  Good luck on the SAT!

 

DUE 3/23 or 3/24:

You will be taking the Chapter 18 test in class.  Both of your papers are due to turnitin.com by midnight on Friday March 24th.

 

INFO ABOUT THE MONTH OF MARCH:

Scantron test for Chapter 18 will be March 23/24 in class.  Final papers for your Disorders Project are both due on Friday March 24 by midnight to turnitin.com.  The info about those papers is here. You will have a work day in class on March 16/17 and we will be studying in class over the next two weeks.  If you are going to be gone the last week before spring break, it is up to you to schedule a time to take the scantron test in advance (the dates for the papers don't change). 

 

IF YOU MISSED CLASS ON 3/2 or 3/3:

Watch the following two videos and complete this note catcher.  The first video teaches you about all the different personality disorders.  The second is a Discovery Channel documentary that explains why serial killers might become that way.  You need to watch both and complete the notes for class on Monday/Tuesday next week.

IF YOU MISSED CLASS ON 2/27 or 2/28:

Please watch this video if you missed class.  Then you need to choose one perspective for understanding schizophrenia from the following: biological, learning, psychoanalytic and multifactorial.  Using the book, your notes and online research answer the following questions for the perspective that you chose:

 

1. How this perspective explain the causes of schizophrenia? 

2. What holes do you see in how this perspective understands schizophrenia?

3. Do you personally agree with how this perspective explains schizophrenia?  Why or why not?

 

DUE FEBRUARY 28 or 29:

Complete the review questions #2, #4, #6 at the end of section 18,.1, 18.2, and 18.3.  This will be 9 total questions and I will collect them at the start of class. 

 

IF YOU MISSED CLASS ON 2/21 or 2/22:

Complete the warm up on this sheet.  Watch this documentary on Dissociative Identity Disorder and then complete the rest of the worksheet. 

 

No additional homework over the three day weekend.  Enjoy!

 

DUE MONDAY 2/13 or TUESDAY 2/14:

Complete a 2-3 paragraph reflectiion about what you have learned about anxiety disorders.  In your reflection answer the following questions:

 

1) Explain a time that you or someone you know struggled with anxiety.  What happened?  Which type of anxiety/anxiety disorder was it?

2) What happened in your body during this anxiety?  What did it feel like?  If you are writing about someone else's anxiety disorder, explain what it is like interacting with that person. 

3) How has learning about anxiety in sections 18.1 and 18.2 changed or evolved how you understand anxiety?

 

** Don't forget that your notes for chapter 18 are due on Thursday/Friday!

 

HOMEWORK OVER THE 1/28 WEEKEND:

Study for your chapter 6 test on Monday/Tuesday!  The following items would be good for you study:

- all vocab terms

- examples of operant conditioning and classical conditioning

- important terms and people, especially for sections 6.1 and 6.2

 

You need to be prepared to explain your operant conditioning procedures and results.  Use the following requirements to plan your response.  You will need to write it during the test period but you can plan it out now and practice what you want to say.

 

PROMPT: 

–From a psychological stand point, analyze the success of your operant conditioning experiment.

–You need to use at least 5 (at minimum) vocabulary terms from Chapter 6 in your response, so prepare that now.

–What went well with your operant conditioning experiment?

–What struggles did you face?

–How could you have made this experiment work better next time?

–What did you learn about human behavior from this experiment?

 

Also, if you did not turn in your video game research sheet and thesis statement, this is also due on Monday/Tuesday. 

 

 

HOMEWORK OVER THE 1/21-1/22 WEEKEND:

Continue administering your operant conditioning experiment.  You will have about 7-10 more days to collect your data on this.  You need to be doing the conditioning every single day!

 

Chapter 6 test will be 1/30 or 1/31. 

 

DUE 1/18:

Read and complete notes for sections 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 in the textbook.  You do not need to read section 6.4.  Notes will be due in class on January 18th.

**Because I did not hand back your sleep disorders notes in time, I will only put the sleep disorders covered in the textbook on the final. 

 

The psychology final will be December 19th or 20th during our assigned final block.  It will be multiple choice and it will cover chapters 1, 2, 3 and 5 (including everything we did in class in addition to the textbook info).  This is a lot of information, so please start studying now!

 

I will be creating a final for each psychology class that includes what we learned from your sleep disorder presentations. These disorders include:

- insomnia

- narcolepsy

- Klein-Levin Syndrome

- sleep apnea

- nightmares, night terrors and sleepwalking

- sleep paralysis

- REM sleep behavior disorder

 

5th period also has:

- Restless Leg Syndrome

- Circadian Rhythm Sleep Disorder

 

If you missed any of these presentations, please come talk to me or email me a list of the presentations you missed and  your google email and I will share the presentations with you. 

 

DUE MONDAY 12/12 or TUESDAY 12/13

Research and learn about a person who is a drug or alcohol addict or a recovering addict.  Complete this addict profile sheet and bring it to class. 

 

Check the gradebook and make sure it is accurate!  There have been quite a few grades lately.  You will have through next Friday 12/9 to do quiz corrections over the chapter 3 quiz. 

 

Due 11/28 or 11/29:

Read and take Cornell notes on Chapter 5: Consciousness. 

 

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUIZ OVER CHAPTER 3 ON MONDAY or TUESDAY.  We will review in class on Thursday/Friday.  It will only be 15 questions. 

 

DUE NOVEMBER 9th:

Write a 1-2 page research paper about a disease or injury that you studied about your assigned part of the brain by 3pm on 11/9 to turnitin.com.  Then, create a creative project that brings this disease to life.  You can turn in your creative project in person or present it to Ms. Broyles by appointment.  Read the directions here.  Read the rules of writing a psychology research paper here.  Talk to Ms. Broyles with questions or help!

 

If you were absent from class on 10/20 or 10/21: 

Watch the two videos below about Alzheimer's Disease and complete questions #1-4 in response to the videos.  Then choose one neurotransmitter-based disease from the list to compare and contrast with Alzheimer's (follow the directions on the worksheet).  You will then compare and contrast your second disease with Alzheimer's in the Venn Diagram.  You need at least 5 points in each section of the Venn Diagram. 

 

Your choices for the second disease: schizophrenia, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, ADHD, cocaine addiction, opiate addiction

DUE THURSDAY IN CLASS:

Watch this video slowly and draw his flow chart in your chapter 3 notes.  This is in addition to your section 3.1 notes, not in replacement.  Seniors, you will have a chance to do this in class on Wednesday. 

 

DUE MONDAY/TUESDAY OCTOBER 31/NOVEMBER 1:

Read and take Cornell notes for chapter 3; the notes will be due in class. 

 

DUE MONDAY/TUESDAY OCTOBER 10/11:

You will turn in one copy of your group's survey planning sheet, your analysis sheet and student-created charts and graphs of your survey data in class on Monday/Tuesday.  This is the only part of the survey project that will be a group grade. 

 

DUE WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 12:

Bring your answers to questions #1,3,5 for sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 to be graded on Wednesday 10/12.

 

DUE OCTOBER 6/7:

Bring the raw data from your surveys to class.  

 

TEST CORRECTIONS:

You can one week to come in and do test corrections in my room (Thursday for periods 3, 5, and 7.  Friday for periods 2 and 4).  I am available for test corrections:

- Tuesday at lunch

- Wednesday from 7:30-8am

- Wednesday after school

DUE SEPTEMBER 29/30

Chapter 2 notes are due on Thursday/Friday.  Make sure that you read and takes notes on all sections.  Do not leave out any material from chapter 2!

 

CHAPTER 1 TEST IS SEPTEMBER 22/23.  It will cover everything that was discussed in class and in chapter 1 of the textbook.  Study this weekend!

DUE SEPTEMBER 14:

Answer questions #1, 3, 5 at the end of all four sections of chapter 1 for review.  You will have 12 total questions that you will have answered.  For example, do questions #1, 3, 5 for section 1.1, then section 1.2, etc.  These are at the end of each section, not in the middle. 

 

DUE SEPTEMBER 8th or 9th:

Watch this video about the history of psychology.  Draw a timeline that incorporates all of the information. 

 

DUE SEPTEMBER 6th (for period 5) or SEPTEMBER 7th (for period 4):

Read and take notes on Chapter 1.  Your notes on Chapter 1 will be due on September 6/7 in class.
